A South Carolina woman was killed and two others were seriously injured when a pickup truck went out of control in a camping area at a weekend music festival about 30 miles east of Morgantown.
Investigators at the scene of the All Good Festival said the truck was going down a hill in the campground area of the concert grounds on Marvin's Mountaintop in Masontown, W.Va. It struck three people at their campsite at 8:48 a.m., according to First Sgt. R.L. Monroe of the West Virginia State Police.
Investigators identified the dead woman as Nichole Miller, 20, of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Two other women, Elizabeth Doran, 20, and Yen H. Ton, 21 and also from Mount Pleasant, were seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. No update on their condition was available.
Officials said the pickup truck careened 30 or 40 feet down the crowded hillside, striking four other vehicles in addition to the three campers.
The festival began Thursday and is ending today. Sgt. Monroe estimated that about 30,000 attended this year's 15th annual weekend concert.
Sgt. Monroe said state police have an accident reconstruction team at the scene trying to determine what happened.
Officials said another vehicle went out of control at another part of the campgrounds and struck several vehicles, but no one was injured.
The investigation is under the direction of Cpl. Rick Dotson of the Preston County Sheriff's Department.
